SQL Introduction

SQL stands for “Structured Query Language”. It is a query language used for accessing and modifying information in the database. IBM first developed SQL in 1970s. It has become a Standard Universal Language used by most of the relational database management systems (RDBMS). Some of the RDBMS systems are: Oracle, Microsoft SQL server, Sybase etc. Most of these have provided their own implementation thus enhancing it’s feature and making it a powerful tool. Few of the sql commands used in sql programming are SELECT Statement, UPDATE Statement, INSERT INTO Statement, DELETE Statement, WHERE Clause, ORDER BY Clause, GROUP BY Clause, ORDER Clause, Joins, Views, GROUP Functions, Indexes etc.

SQL Data Manipulation Language (DML)

SQL data manipulation language (DML) is a main part of SQL statements. SQL DML allows you to retrieve data from the database tables in relational database management system (RDBMS). In addition, SQL DML allows you change or delete data from the database tables by using UPDATE and DELETE statements. Here are all the SQL statements related to the SQL data manipulation language:

SQL Data Definition Language (DDL)

SQL Data definition language is a subset of SQL statements. SQL Database definition language allows yout to create, alter or remove different kind database objects such as tables, views, indexes.

Data Control Language (DCL)

SQL Data Control Language (DCL) is used to create roles, permissions, and referential integrity as well it is used to control access to database by securing it.

Transactional Control Language

SQL Transactional Control Language (TCL) is used to manage different transactions occurring within a database.
